Contemporary Victorian Hair styles, inspired by American Horror Story

Materials needed:

pin tail comb
paddle brush
sectioning clips
pins
heat protection
hairspray
tong
Preparing for the look:
  • do a slight side parting and create a section for 3 horizontal curls on top for one side and for the other side you do 2 curls
  • remember to keep the curls tight and when you curl hold the tong straight up and go down, then pin them down so they stay in place while they are cooling down
  • ->down use hairspray before you curl unless you want to do avant garde, you will use a lot of hairspray later
  • when you are done with the top do to the sides; do one vertical curl just above the ear, remember to pull the tong a bit back when curling the hair so the curl sits nicely but not to much in the face
  • back: do one curl horizontally on the crown of the head and then keep going down in a kind of brick work shape
  • pin all the curls down and don't release them until they are completely cool otherwise they won't stay in their shape
the top:
3 curls on one side

2 on the other one

Design 1: The Maid

Our Famous Fictional Maid for Wednesday is the terrifying Moira O'Hara. If you're worried your post-Halloween party house will be messy enough to qualify as an 'American Horror Story', schedule your free cleaning estimate today!

Steps:
  • release all the pins and go through them carefully so you won't destroy the curls!
  • but leave the curls on top of the head
  • start at the sides; take the curls from the side and start twisting them inside and keep taking in more and more hair from the back, if needed pin some parts
  • do this for each side and pin the hair inside
  • take the middle bit twist it inside and pin it in
  • going back to the front: take the curls and place them in a wavy shape back, keep building up the curls; on the picture you can see how the curls pile up on each other
  • do the same thing for the other side

Design 2:

Steps:
  • take the paddle brush and and comb out the hair
  • but remember to hold the hair straight and with confidence and then brush them out from above and afterwards from underneath ;the curl is supposed to be in a nice wavy shape than
  • ->NOTE: I am not sure if I did this one right because my friend wasn't really good at explaining and I was ill during the week when we did those hairstyles during lesson
  • do this with all of the hair

Design 3:

For this design you should apply hairspray all over the hair and then just shake  the hair.
Shake it, shake it, shake it!! It needs to have a lot of volume. I also needed to fix the front part a bit more with hairspray because the hair didn't like the direction I parted it so it kept falling back to the middle.

Steps:
  • first apply the moisturizer all over your face and work it in nicely
  • apply the Catrice foundation and buff it in well, afterwards apply concealer where it is necessary
  • powder with the Essence fixing powder and pay especially attention to the eye area because we don't want any greasy lines later
  • now apply some of the brownish gold eyeshadow ('don't have to hide away' from salvation palette) on the eyelid, fill it completely out
  • then use the 'break out from society' red and apply it over it but don't fill the whole eyelid with it-> it is supposed to be a highlight
  • using a round blending brush go into the dark purple 'you will be my boy' and apply it in the outer corners and blend it inside, you can also go a bit outside with the eyeshadow to make the look a bit more dramatic; also go down to the lower lash line until you reach the middle
  • using a new blending brush take some of the 'head to the hills' and blend away any harsh lines
  • using the bh cosmetic liquid eyeliner create a nicely winged line, make sure it is even on both sides
  • using the w7 highlighter eye pencil apply the golden color underneath your lower lash line and in the inner corner of your eye
  • curl your eyelashes
  • apply false eyelashes
  • apply mascara
  • eyebrows: first using the e´Tonymoly eyebrow pencil draw the shape you want and fill in, brush it out a bit with the brush on the other side of the pencil , then using the lightest brown from the eyebrow palette fill in your eyebrows and then fix them with the lash and brow transparent gel mascara
  • moving on to the lips; apply the MAC rebel messily on the middle of your lips, mix the black Mac pigment with the shine mixing medium and fill out the lips, also go over the purple colour of the Mac lipstick-> your lips will look black but will also have a purple shimmer
  • because the shine medium didn't make the black as shiny/glossy as I wanted it to be , I also applied the Rimmel London Black Diva lip gloss on top of it
  • lastly apply some shimmer on the cheeks with the Bobbi Brown Brightening Finishing Powder
-> afterwards I also put on a dark blue flower headband, because I thought it would go quite well with the dark eyes and lips look

  • dab some of the beige eye shadow onto the lips to give them a pale look
  • some prepare the bandages, cut it in the size you need and apply the blood ->lay it onto the right eye and then tie the bandage around the head to make the self made bloody eye patch stay
  • apply some fake blood around the face as well, it is supposed to look , like he touched his bloody eye and then smudged the blood in his face
  • the last thing is the Angel banish Sigil(from Supernatural) on his neck
  • take a thin brush and using the fake blood draw the sigil on his neck
  • From then on it is important that the model does not move the neck too much otherwise it will get smudged

Back to see how the hair looks at the back

Because the rabbit is the second lead in this shoot :)

    Evaluation of the shoot:
I quite enjoyed my Quentin shoot. The makeup is not too complicated so I didn't feel pressured or anything. I wanted to portray him as weak and innocent ,that's why I used the rabbit soft toy but somehow it didn't really give off the impression of innocent. But my model managed to portray Quentin weak and sick looking which I like. I really wanted to do a picture with Claudia and Quentin together in it but because I had to use the same model for Claudia and Quentin it wasn't possible. I actually planned to have different models but when I was back home the shootings didn't work out as we didn't have a proper camera kit and very bad lightning at home. But I like the outcome of this shoot. When it comes to the makeup there wasn't that much to worry about. The only annoying thing was the fake blood I used. It had a very gooey consistence which wasn't really perfect. But it still worked. And I maybe should have ironed the shirt before the shoot^^
